Evan finishes 2nd in CORR's Inaugural Nissan Off-Road Nationals Shootout
Otay Ranch Off-Road Raceway,San Diego, CA (October 5, 2005)

A 3rd place finish on Saturday and a 2nd place finish on Sunday in the inaugural 2-day event earned Evan a 2nd place trophy in the Pro-2 division. Motorsports superstars Jeremy McGrath, Boris Said and Roberto Guerrero were joined this weekend by Supercross/FMX star Travis Pastrana and Jesse James of West Coast Choppers who all races in the Pro-2 class.

On Saturday Evan started strong in the land rush start and was running 2nd behind Scott Taylor the first two laps. Evans throttle (no accelerator in a hand controlled truck) began to sick ½ way open causing him to “bicycle” on two wheels and go over the edge of the track in a turn, dropping 10 feet and landing on all four wheels. He lost 3 positions but came back onto the track in 5th. He held this position to the mandatory 2-lap full field yellow flag laps. This was done by CORR to gather the drives back in and have a single file start. The drivers could head to the hot pits during these laps and re-join the back of the pack. Carl Renezeder received a black flag for passing during the yellow flag laps and now Evan was in 3rd behind leaders Scott Taylor, Josh Baldwin, and Kevin Probst. Josh Baldwin rolled on lap 12 giving Evan 3rd place. Evan was on Probst back bumper and tried to pass but was happy with his 3rd place finish.

Scott Taylor took the lead again off the start on Sunday with Carl Renezeder and Evan right behind him. For 11 of the 15 laps Carl trailed Taylor with Evan on their tails. The first lap after the mandatory yellow flag laps Renezeder went high into a turn and went off the track, putting Evan in second behind Taylor. Evan ran the last four laps while losing power steering. Not a big problem, with wheeling a 800 h.p. race truck with one hand....well that’s why Evan’s motto is “Never Give Up”.
